Jungle Party

"One, two, three... ROARRRR!"

Five-year-old little D loved animals, especially the lion. It was no surprise that for his birthday yesterday, he got his venue decorated in a safari manner, and even had animal costumes for his guests to dress-up for the photoshoot. With added props from MFB, it was indeed a jungle out there.

And what more apt than to bring across the message to the children that in their everyday lives, they ought to look before they leap, and to be careful where they were treading. Danger lurks in every corner, be it physically or spiritually, and they needed to learn to take care of themselves, especially if their caregivers were not by their side.

After the meaningful story, the 14 children were all eager to have a roaring good time out in the jungle. First up was the boys-versus-girls LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP competition. It was a gunny-sack race and the children had to leap to a checkpoint to pick up and thread in a part of the team's animal necklace. Who would have thought that the girls would out-leap the boys in this physically challenging game? They certainly leapt with amazing speed and the threading of the necklace proved to be an easy task for their nimble fingers - the girls won this challenge.

Next up was the animal blow-wind-blow game, where each child was masked up as an animal. All of them were very excited to run for a seat in the "jungle" when blown away from their own seat. And in the process, they learnt about animal facts like which animal could be kept as a pet, or lived in the wild in Africa and so on. Everyone had a great time in this non-competitive adventure.

Finally, as they children paused for a water break and collected their party craft items, all of them had a go at pinning the nose on the lion - the one on the poster, not the birthday boy. And the child that pinned it the most accurately walked away with a surprise.

Moral of the story - Look before your leap; Even when you are blindfolded and twirled around and overwhelmed in this world (by lots of homework and activities), pause and steady yourself before you move on.

Happy Birthday Little D!

God Made Me Special and He Loves Me Very Much II

God Made Me Special and He Loves Me Very Much

That was the theme for pretty B’s 8th birthday party. It was almost an all girl affair except for her little brother. After a scrumptious buffet lunch, the group gathered for a story entitled, “Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover”. The children learned that we should not judge others by their appearance. God made everyone different and we are to love as He has loved us.

Next was the all exciting, all challenging, all rounded station games, except that the children remain stationary around a table. A total of 11 tasks have to be completed to determine the winning team. The group was put through a mix of physical endurance, mental stimulations, hand-eye-coordination etc that utilized the gifts and talents of each member of the group. The winner emerged after an intense, nail-biting, 45 minutes.

The final activity was a flurry of frames and stickers as the children gathered in groups to decorate their photo frames. Some chose a garden theme with butterflies and bees, while others prefer creatures under the sea. Everyone was happy to bring home their one of a kind frame with a picture taken with our lovely birthday girl.

MFB had such a great time with the Little B and hopes she and her friends had a great time too!

Start of School Reunion Party

It was a simple reunion for a group of kindergarten friends who have just started Primary One. With the first day of school still fresh in their minds, the party began with a heart-warming story of a dolphin starting a new term at school. The kids could relate with the story about having a buddy, making new friends and exploring the school. They came away learning that we should not judge people by how they look but be friends with everyone. After all, God made everyone special.

After story time, it was a crazy time of hunting for jigsaw puzzle pieces to complete a picture. The next game was quiet and intense as the kids, blindfolded, tried their best to pin the nose on the lion. After a snack break, the kids positioned themselves with their favourite inflatable animals for a group photo before getting down to decorating their own photo frame to remind them of the story they have heard earlier.

It’s amazing to see the kids work on their frames to make it so colourful. God has indeed made each of them unique. May they look back at this reunion with fond memories.
